Explore the Magic of Cape Wine Tours

Franschhoek and Stellenbosch side by side — two valleys, two personalities, and a combined wine experience that is hard to equal anywhere in the world.

Franschhoek and Stellenbosch side by side — two valleys, two personalities, and a combined wine experience that is hard to equal anywhere in the world.

The Cape Winelands is not one place — it’s a collection of valleys, each with its own identity, its own grape varieties, and its own reasons to visit. Two of the most rewarding are Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, and they sit less than an hour apart.

Franschhoek: Culture, Cuisine, and Artisanal Wines

Founded by French Huguenot refugees in the 1680s, Franschhoek carries its history lightly. The main street is lined with restaurants that rank among South Africa’s finest, and the estates in the valley produce wines with a distinctly European sensibility — restrained, food-friendly, and often exceptional.

The village itself is worth time on foot. Galleries, deli counters, farm stalls, and the Huguenot Memorial Museum all reward a slow walk.

Stellenbosch: Diversity and Depth

Broader in scope and more varied in character, Stellenbosch is where the full range of South African wine comes into focus. From old-vine Chenin Blanc to polished Bordeaux blends to experimental natural wines, the region covers extraordinary ground.

A Typical Cape Wine Tour

A well-structured day visits three or four wineries, moving through both valleys or concentrating on one in depth. You’ll encounter Pinotage, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Chenin Blanc in the same afternoon — sometimes from producers who share a fence but make entirely different wines.

Beyond the Tastings

The Cape Winelands offers more than cellar doors. Wine blending workshops, cooking classes, vineyard cycling, and helicopter tours over the valley are all available. The key, as with most things in this region, is to slow down and let the experience unfold at its own pace.
